About the Author

Former businessman and professional male model, Chuck, as he prefers to be called, has moved through life according to where his heart has dictated. The native of Stoughton, Wisconsin, grew up in his adoptive home town of Savannah, Georgia. Life's lessons began in lower-middle class housing where money for travel and holidays were the exception; thus his philosophy became "go to work in great places where other people pay to play."

Chuck served 11 years in the United States Air Force prior to being retired due to 100% disability from brain injuries, to which he jokingly attributes the copious troubles he got into during his career. After rebuilding his body and life, Chuck found employment aboard cruise ships in the Caribbean and around the world. It is in this line of work where he crossed paths with Maia, his wife of 45 years. Later, he founded and owned Grand Canyon State Tours & Convention Services, was a highly paid and sought-after male model (but finally skipped over for “the Marlboro Man”), until ending his long career overseas in a Middle Eastern prison.

Undercover inside Iraq, he escaped the wrath of Saddam Hussein, but while serving as Political Section Head for the Ministry of Information in Kuwait, he was tried and convicted in two separate courts, for assault in one and—just down the hall—for “spying and espionage” in the other. He received a sentence to 3 1/2 years in prison.

Upon release, Chuck pursued contract work in Somalia, where he dealt with the warlords of both sides. Under a bit of gunfire, he was eventually chased from Somalia, only to reroute his rescue aircraft to Mombasa, Kenya, in an attempt to cash out one of the warlords’ bank accounts.

Though he has been called a spy by some, he says, "I had the ability and nerve to go places required and to gain information needed under a brutal dictator, a couple of African military leaders, and a Middle Eastern royal. I got my ass kicked, I bled, and I came home. It is easier now writing of my past than reliving it.”

The Tybee Bomb

Prepare yourself for a literary explosion as Chuck unveils his most narratively charged creation yet – MK-15 The Tybee Island Bomb. This gripping tale unfolds on two fronts: the first narrative delves into the mystery of a missing, armed thermonuclear bomb, a weapon 200 times more potent than those that ended World War II. This deadly device now lies ominously along the southeast Georgia coast. The second storyline unravels the catastrophic consequences of a hastily executed Nuclear Treaty with Russia, leaving tens of thousands of decommissioned nuclear bombs buried just fifty miles upstream from the active bomb.

Spanning over thirty years, MK-15 chronicles Chuck's journey from his early years in the United States, through his service in the United States Air Force, and his impactful role as Political Section Head at the Ministry of Information in Kuwait – a tenure marked by imprisonment. The book also sheds light on his father's vigilance in attending Tybee Island's Town Hall Meetings, ensuring Chuck stayed informed despite his global endeavors.

This meticulously crafted narrative, long delayed by Chuck's overseas assignments in Africa's tumultuous regions, now emerges with a crucial purpose. Beyond a riveting exposé, MK-15 serves as a call to action, urging the public to rally behind the retrieval of America's lost bomb. The stakes are high – the Tybee Island Bomb, armed and potentially ticking toward detonation, could spell catastrophe for the southeastern coastline, rendering it uninhabitable for millennia.

Within its pages, MK-15 unveils hundreds of documented and unsettling excerpts from scientists and government officials, shedding light on a truth that authorities hope to bury. While the government acknowledges the bomb's armed status, what remains concealed is its capacity for autonomous, self-triggered detonation.

Join Chuck as he presents MK-15 The Tybee Island Bomb at the Savannah Book Festival, captivating over 20,000 patrons, and subsequently in bookstores, retail outlets, military bases, lecture halls, American Legion Halls, civic organizations, and his new online newsletter. Don't miss your chance to dive into this explosive narrative that could reshape the course of history.

Published Works

Almost a Spy

Chuck’s literary debut, Almost a Spy is more a collection of personal notes than an intentionally composed novel. He penned and self-published the book with urgency, fueled by the grim diagnosis of cancer that he had received. (Thankfully, he has managed to gain the upper hand in the fight for his health.)

Almost a Spy is a raw and authentic account of Chuck’s journey in the Middle East, from mansions of the oil-rich to and forbidden gambling junkets with members of the Royal family to being charged in absentia and getting tortured behind bars for espionage.

With great detail Chuck exposes the intrigue of the Jeddah Conference where kings, princes, and ministers begged Kuwait to arbitrate with Saddam Hussein to save their country. It is revealed how Kuwait's ruling family not only spurned efforts to hold off invasion but failed to even make preparations to protect their population from impending death and destruction. As Saddam prepared his retribution for the years of Kuwaitis stealing Iraqi oil, purse strings and the toss of a coin decided which party the Americans would side with and where the line in the sand would be drawn.

Chuck documents his Ali Baba runs and night crawling, behind enemy lines and closed doors of ministries, palaces, and mosque offices, while searching for monetary trails destined for terrorist links. During his on and off relationship with Kuwait, Chuck moved his efforts over to the Horn of Africa, to the stifling hot dusty streets of Mogadishu, Somalia, where the United Nations was trying to set up a legitimate government.

Almost a Spy Too

With a renewed lease on life and the assistance of a publishing company, Chuck has reshaped his original narrative in a follow-up book Almost a Spy Too. Lightly edited and expertly formatted, this edition has also been delicately revised to provide a balanced storytelling experience without… ahem… self-incrimination. This thoughtful approach contributes to a more nuanced and considerate portrayal of the challenges and complexities embedded in Chuck's remarkable journey.
